To ensure peaceful celebrations of the forthcoming Independence Day 2025, as directed by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Monday briefed the police force on the current security scenario and reviewed counter-terror strategies. He also issued operational directives on inter-district coordination, high-visibility checkpoints, and round-the-clock surveillance to prevent any breach of law and order in the border state.

The DGP was on a whirlwind tour to chair Law and Order Review Meetings and outreach sessions with officers of the Commissionerates—Amritsar, Jalandhar, and Ludhiana—and Police Ranges—Border, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, and Ropar. He also reviewed the ongoing anti-drugs campaign Yudh Nashian Virudh and action against gangsters and organised crime.

Reaffirming the state’s zero-tolerance stance against drug trafficking, DGP Yadav directed district police chiefs to ensure strict, transparent, and uncompromising enforcement of the NDPS Act. While appreciating the progress of the Yudh Nashian Virudh campaign, he instructed district officers to further intensify efforts to eradicate drugs from Punjab.

He also asked officers to conduct financial investigations under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act and to target hawala operators in order to dismantle the entire ecosystem of drug trafficking.

Taking stock of security arrangements ahead of Independence Day, DGP Yadav instructed all CPs and SSPs to maintain peace and harmony by ensuring visible police presence at key locations, intensifying domination operations, and implementing other preventive and detective measures.

As part of heightened security, police personnel will conduct regular patrols and checks—particularly at night—to avert potential threats or disruptions. The DGP also directed CPs and SSPs to increase checkpoints in their jurisdictions and ensure visible policing in high-footfall areas, snatching hotspots, and other sensitive points.

As part of his outreach, DGP Yadav directly engaged with officers across all ranks, including station house officers (SHOs), encouraging open discussions and exchange of field insights to strengthen inter-district coordination and dismantle drug supply chains.
