At least ten doctors were injured while many others fell on road in a police lathicharge on Monday during their massive rally to gherao Rajasthan Legislative Assembly against a controversial bill on ‘right to health’ which the government tabled its select committee report in the House today.

Clothes of many protesting doctors were also torn in the melee at Statue Circle, Dr Sunil Chug, President of Indian Medical Association (Rajasthan state) told SNS here.

Four of the injured were taken to nearby hospitals, IMA Media Chairman Dr Sanjeev Gupta called the brutal attack on the peacefully protesting doctors and para-medical staff as ‘deplorable’. Some women protesters were also misbehaved by the cops, Dr Gupta added.

The chairman of the Joint Action committee, Dr. Chugh, said that the government has included all the objections and suggestions of the committee in the select committee report of the bill. But a faction of the JAC alleged that the suggestions and objections were not included in the bill whose report on the select committee was placed in the House. This was the reason to hold the Maha-Rally to oppose The Rajasthan Right to Health Bill-2022, Dr Chug said, adding the government wanted to clear it in the House without any debate.

Later, a delegation of doctors headed by Dr Vijay Kapoor and Dr Rakesh Kalra, met Health Minister Parsadi Lal Meena to withdraw the bill, and warned to continue the protest and strike in the entire state.
