Former Chief Minister and BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao Sunday attacked the BJP-led central government, accusing it of blocking Telangana’s development, including the Palamuru Rangareddy irrigation project at the instance of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and slammed the Congress-run state government for doing nothing about it.

Emerging in public after a long hiatus, Rao, popularly known as KCR, chaired the meeting with the BRS Legislative Party and members of the state executive committee, which lasted for almost three hours, with the former chief minister giving directions to leaders and cadres about bringing such issues before the public.

Speaking on a topic close to his heart – the water rights of Telangana, KCR pointed out that the policies of the BRS government were abandoned by the Congress when it came to power. “After our government left, not even a single inch of soil was dug in the Palamuru Lift Irrigation Scheme. So why was it abandoned? Two years have passed,” he said.

Criticising the Centre he said, “The central government is opposing everything. The BJP-led Centre has opposed Telangana’s development from day one, and after Chandrababu Naidu joined the NDA, blocking Telangana projects has become their sole agenda.” He went on to point out that his government had secured most of the approvals required to launch the irrigation project, which would bring water to Palmuru, one of the most backward areas known for migration due to water scarcity. “After all this, the central government needs Chandrababu Naidu’s MPs. BJP will stoop to any extent for that. They listened to him and sent the DPR back,”rued KCR.

He also slammed the Revanth Reddy-led Congress government in the state for only selling off government land. “Is there even a government in the state, or is dealing in real estate their sole priority?” alleged Rao.

He announced that BRS would organise huge public meetings in Mahabubnagar, Rangareddy and Nalgonda districts in January next year. Rao also instructed the party leaders to organise meetings at the mandal and district levels to protest against the government’s stance on the Palamuru Rangareddy Lift Irrigation project.
