Born in a humble and poor family in Tamil Nadu, Kamaraj began working as a shop assistant at the age of 12. The Jallianwala Bagh massacre at the age of 15 became a turning point in his life, drawing him into the freedom struggle. Kamaraj served as the Chief Minister of Madras from 1954 and suggested the “Kamaraj Plan” to Jawaharlal Nehru in 1963, advocating for senior Congress leaders to take up organisational work. His visionary Mid Day Meal scheme broke down barriers and brought education within reach for the disadvantaged.
