Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his deepest condolences on the passing away of former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga, describing him as a towering statesman and a cherished friend of India. Odinga passed away on Wednesday due to cardiac arrest while undergoing Ayurvedic treatment in Kerala.
PM Modi recalled his association with Odinga since his days as Chief Minister of Gujarat, highlighting Odinga’s special affection for India, its culture, values, and ancient wisdom. “He had a special affection for India, our culture, values, and ancient wisdom. This was reflected in his efforts to strengthen India-Kenya ties,” PM Modi said in a post on X.

The Prime Minister also noted Odinga’s admiration for Ayurveda and the traditional medicine systems of India, which was evident in his efforts to seek treatment for his daughter in India. “He particularly admired Ayurveda and traditional medicine systems of India, having witnessed their positive impact on his daughter’s health,” PM Modi added.

PM Modi extended his deepest condolences to Odinga’s family, friends, and the people of Kenya during this hour of grief. “Deeply saddened by the passing of my dear friend and former Prime Minister of Kenya, Mr Raila Odinga. He was a towering statesman and a cherished friend of India,” PM Modi said.
Raila Odinga was a prominent Kenyan politician who served as the country’s Prime Minister from 2008 to 2013. He was known for his contributions to Kenya’s democratic reforms and his efforts to strengthen international relations. Odinga’s demise has sent shockwaves across Kenya and beyond, with leaders and citizens paying tribute to his legacy.
