Prime Minister Narendra Modi Saturday met with 16 Governors of various Prefectures of Japan, emphasizing the importance of strengthening State-Prefecture engagement between the two countries.
The meeting highlighted the growing momentum in the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership across various domains.

State-Prefecture Partnership Initiative, launched at the 15th Annual Summit, is an initiative aiming to boost trade, technology, tourism, skills, security, and cultural linkages between the two countries.
Prime Minister Modi noted that each Prefecture in Japan has its niche economic and technological strengths, while Indian states have their own diverse capabilities. He invited the Governors to participate in India’s growth story and leverage their strengths.
The Prime Minister urged the Governors to contribute towards youth and skills exchange commitments made by the two countries, optimally combining Japanese technology with Indian talent.
The Governors acknowledged that sub-national collaboration is key to taking India-Japan business, educational, cultural, and people-to-people ties to the next level of ambition. The meeting marks a significant step towards deepening the partnership between India and Japan, with a focus on mutual growth and development.
The Prime Minister encouraged the Governors and Indian State governments to leverage the new initiative and forge partnerships in areas such as collaborating on manufacturing projects and promoting investment, sharing technological expertise and innovations, encouraging start-ups and entrepreneurship, enhancing people-to-people mobility and tourism, collaborating on infrastructure development projects, and supporting small and medium-sized enterprises and start-ups.
