During his meeting with the Governors, the Prime Minister discussed ways to further deepen the growing partnerships between Indian states and Japanese prefectures in the fields of technology, innovation, investment, skills, start-ups and SMEs.
“This morning, I held an exchange of views with the governors of 16 prefectures in Japan in Tokyo. Therefore, at the 15th India-Japan Summit held yesterday, an initiative on this inter-regional cooperation was launched. The Prime Minister is on a two-day visit to Japan. Earlier on Friday, he attended the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba.
After their summit meeting in Tokyo, both countries announced plans to attract 10 trillion yen (about USD 68 billion) in investment from Japan to India over the next decade, focusing on small and medium enterprises and start-ups.
“We have laid a strong foundation for a new and golden chapter in our special strategic and global partnership,” PM Modi said during a joint press meet.
“Today, our discussion was both productive and purposeful. We both agree that as two of the world’s largest economies and vibrant democracies, our partnership is not only crucial for our countries but also for global peace and stability,” PM Modi said, asserting, “We aim to attract 10 trillion yen in investment from Japan to India over the next decade, with a focus on small and medium enterprises and start-ups.”
After finishing his Japan tour, Modi has now left for China to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin. He is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian leader Vladimir Putin during the visit. This will be Modi’s first visit to China since the 2020 India-China border standoff.
