During their meeting, both leaders reviewed the progress of India-China bilateral relations since their meeting in Kazan last year.

Modi, who is in China after a gap of seven years to attend the SCO Summit, reaffirmed that the two countries were development partners and not rivals, and that their differences should not turn into disputes.

Prime Minister underlined the importance of peace and tranquillity on the border areas for continued development of bilateral relations, the MEA said.

Prime Minister also had a meeting with Cai Qi, Member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China.

If the visit materialises, this will be Xi’s first trip to India since 2019. The Chinese President last visited India in October 2019 for the 2nd Informal Summit.
