Addressing Manipur, he recognised the state’s achievements and identity, noting its passion for sports, culture, and nature, and wished its people ongoing success on the development path.

For Tripura, the Prime Minister noted the state’s remarkable fusion of tradition and modernity, its pioneering transformations across various sectors, and its role in advancing India’s growth trajectory, offering prayers for its prosperity.

Summarising his greetings, PM Modi congratulated the people of Manipur, Meghalaya, and Tripura on their Statehood Day and expressed his sincere wish for their success through their own efforts.

The Prime Minister’s messages come amid the government’s continued focus on the Northeast, termed “Ashta Lakshmi,” reflecting eight forms of prosperity. Recent efforts have concentrated on infrastructure, connectivity, tourism, sports, and cultural promotion, alongside integration with broader national and regional economies.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and senior leader Rahul Gandhi also conveyed heartfelt greetings to the people of the three northeastern states, highlighting their vital contributions to India’s nation-building and called for peace, harmony, and inclusive progress.

In social media messages, both leaders praised the rich cultural diversity, history, and resilience of the three states. Kharge expressed his admiration for the states’ natural beauty, diversity, and enduring spirit, noting their valuable role over the past 54 years. He wished the people continued peace, prosperity, and progress in the future.

Rahul Gandhi echoed these sentiments, emphasising the region’s integral place in India’s pluralistic fabric. He wished the people of the three states well and stressed the importance of strengthening unity through peace, harmony, and prosperity.

These messages come at a time when the Northeast, especially Manipur, remains a focus of national attention due to ongoing ethnic tensions. By underscoring peace and unity, Congress leaders highlighted the region’s historical significance and the necessity of sustained efforts for stability and development.

Manipur, Meghalaya, and Tripura attained statehood on January 21, 1972, under the North Eastern Areas (Reorganisation) Act, 1971, a move aimed at enhancing political autonomy in the region. Over time, these states have cultivated distinct identities shaped by indigenous cultures, languages, and histories, while increasingly contributing to national life.

Statehood Day celebrations across the three states typically feature official ceremonies, cultural programs, and public events that showcase local traditions and achievements, while leaders renew commitments to peace, stability, and inclusive development in this strategically important region.
