Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday emphasised the strengthening of India’s strategic and economic relations with European partners, along with advancing technological collaboration, following a series of high-level meetings in New Delhi.

In posts on X, the Prime Minister shared details of his discussions with Spanish President Pedro Sánchez, Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, and Alphabet Inc. CEO Sundar Pichai.

Modi described his meeting with President Sánchez as “productive,” highlighting efforts to enhance cooperation in defence, security, and technology. The leaders also underscored the significance of 2026 as the India–Spain Year of Culture, Tourism, and Artificial Intelligence, aimed at strengthening cultural and academic exchanges.

The Prime Minister welcomed the visit of a large delegation of Spanish universities to India, stressing the importance of people-to-people ties. He also noted that the proposed India–European Union Free Trade Agreement would positively impact economic relations with Spain by creating new opportunities for growth and investment.

During his talks with Prime Minister Orpo, Modi focused on expanding trade and cooperation in emerging sectors such as sixth-generation telecommunications, clean energy, and the circular economy. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to leveraging technology and sustainability for shared progress.

On the sidelines of the Artificial Intelligence Impact Summit, Modi also met Pichai and discussed India’s rapid progress in artificial intelligence and possibilities for deeper collaboration, particularly by harnessing India’s vast talent pool.

These engagements reflect India’s strategic push to deepen its partnerships with European nations and accelerate cooperation in advanced technologies, further strengthening its position as a global hub for innovation and sustainable development.
