A Pawan Hans chopper today experienced a short landing incident near Mayabunder, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, around 9:30 am. The helicopter made an emergency ditching into the sea after facing trouble in landing, shortly after taking off from Port Blair.

The aircraft was carrying seven people at the time of the incident – two crew members and five passengers. Reportedly, the passengers onboard included three men, one woman, and one child.

According to the Pawan Hans spokesperson, all onboard passengers and pilots have been rescued and are safe. The rescued passengers, Rajita Devi and her infant, Kamal Ch. Das, Sipra Saha, and Nambi Amma have been admitted to Dr. RP Hospital, Mayabunder, and are under observation and treatment.

He also stated that all necessary safety protocols were followed, ensuring the well-being of the crew and passengers.

Several aspects are being assessed by the concerned authorities to identify the cause and circumstances that led to the incident. However, officials familiar with the developments said the helicopter went down into the sea approximately 300 metres short of the runway as it was approaching Mayabunder for landing.

The incident was reported just a few hours after a fatal plane crash claimed seven lives in Jharkhand. An air ambulance aircraft crashed in Chatra district last evening, killing all seven people on board.
