The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has decided to issue a U/A certificate to Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s historical drama ‘Padmavati’ after suggesting 26 cuts to the film and changing the title to ‘Padmavat’.

As per reports, the certification will be issued once the alterations are made by the filmmakers.

“Central Board of Film Certification had examining committee meeting on 28 Dec to review Padmavati and decided to give it UA certificate along with some modifications and likely change of the title to Padmavat,” ANI quoted the board as saying.

“The film was approached with balanced view keeping in mind both the filmmakers and society. Considering complexities and concerns around the film the requirement for a special panel was felt by CBFC to add perspective to the final decision,” it added.

The film was reviewed by a special panel constituted by the CBFC. The panel members had insights and also some reservations regarding the claimed historical events and socio-cultural aspects which were duly discussed at length, the CBFC said.

There were protests against the movie by some fringe Hindutva outfits which said it was “insulting to Rajput pride.”

Several politicians then weighed in saying they won’t allow the release of the movie in Rajasthan.

The row took a turn for the worse when threats were issued against Bhansali and the film’s lead actress Deepika Padukone.
