After a special CBI court on Saturday sentenced Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav to 3.5 years in jail and fined him Rs.5 lakh in a case of fodder scam, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi took to Twitter saying, “Our charges against Lalu has been vindicated by Court”.

CBI court verdict

Lalu Yadav was likely to get three to seven years’ punishment, as per reports and had he got a three year sentence, the process to get bail would’ve been easy. However, now the leader would have to approach the higher court to get the bail.

Minutes after the verdict, Lalu’s son, Tejashwi said he would be approaching the High Court.

“The judiciary performed its duty. We will go to the High Court after studying the sentence and apply for a bail,” Tejashwi said.

The RJD leader also hit out at the BJP for conspiring against his father and called it a political witch-hunting.

Earlier, Sushil Modi had taken a jibe at Lalu Prasad Yadav after his conviction by the CBI court in the fodder scam case, Modi had said, “What you sow, so shall you reap”.

He had also said that RJD chief Lalu Prasad is a habitual criminal, who will never get reformed.

“Lalu Prasad aadatan apradhi aur jail yatri hai, jo kabhi sudharne wale nahi hai (Lalu Prasad is a habitual criminal and a frequent visitor to jail, who will never get reformed),” Modi said here a day ahead of the pronouncement of quantum of punishment in a fodder scam case by a special CBI court in Ranchi.

Sushil Modi was one of the petitioners, on whose PIL the Patna High Court had, in 1996, ordered a CBI inquiry into the cases relating to the fodder scam.
