Calling Operation Sindoor a watershed moment in India’s counter-terror and deterrence strategy, President Droupadi Murmu, on Thursday, said that it made the world take note not only of India’s military capability but also of India’s moral clarity to act firmly yet responsibly in the pursuit of peace.

The President was speaking at the Chanakya Defence Dialogue (CDD) 2025. Based on the theme “Reform to Transform: Sashakt, Surakshit aur Viksit Bharat,” the two-day dialogue is being organised by the Indian Army, in collaboration with the Centre for Land Warfare Studies (CLAWS) in the national capital today.

“The Indian Armed Forces have exemplified professionalism and patriotism in guarding the sovereignty of India during every security challenge. Whether conventional, counterinsurgency, or humanitarian. Armed forces have displayed remarkable adaptability and reserve,” said the President.

She said that the Indian defence forces have gone beyond their operational goal and remain a pillar of national development. “Apart from strengthening our frontiers, they have also helped in border area development from infrastructure and connectivity to the region and education,” she added.

Drawing attention towards the geopolitical landscape, Murmu said that it is changing rapidly. “The international system is being rewritten by contrasting power centres, technological disruptions, and shifting alliances. New domains of computation, cyberspace information, and cognitive warfare are blurring the lines between space and competence,” she said.

Highlighting that the country has shown that strategic autonomy can coexist with global responsibility, the President said, ”Our diplomacy, economy, and armed forces together project that India seeks peace but is prepared to protect its border and its citizens with strength and conviction.”

She further commended the Indian army, stating that the force is transforming itself from quantifiable and deliverable under the decade of transformation. “It is reforming structures, reorienting doctrines, and redefining capabilities to be future-ready and vision-capable across all domains. These defence reforms will help in making India self-reliant,” she concluded her address.
