The Odisha Police have destroyed more than 64.8 metric tonnes (64,816.17 kg) of seized ganja under the ongoing drug-free Odisha campaign, marking a major achievement in the state’s efforts to curb narcotics, said officials on Friday.
The destruction was carried out as part of the Special Narcotics Disposal Fortnight, being observed from June 26 to July 10, under the direct supervision of the Special Task Force (STF) of the CID-Crime Branch.

According to official figures, 78,600.68 kg of seized ganja had been identified for disposal during the campaign. As of July 2, 64,816.17 kg had already been destroyed, while the remaining 13,784.22 kg is scheduled to be disposed of by July 10.
Among the districts, Kandhamal led the disposal drive by destroying 31,445.40 kg of seized ganja. It was followed by Boudh with 16,127 kg, Malkangiri with 8,969.94 kg, Gajapati with 3,116 kg, and Bargarh with 1,306 kg.
Police said Malkangiri, Gajapati, Koraput, Balangir, Mayurbhanj, Bargarh, Balasore, Keonjhar, SRP Rourkela and Sundargarh have achieved their respective targets under the disposal campaign.
The special drive forms part of Odisha Police’s broader strategy to make the state drug-free by ensuring the timely disposal of seized narcotic substances and preventing their re-entry into the illegal supply chain. The campaign is continuing across the state, with authorities aiming to complete the destruction of all identified seized cannabis by the scheduled deadline.
