Nearly 4,000 lost mobile phones returned to owners by Haryana Police through CEIR portal

Haryana Police have achieved remarkable success this year in tracing mobile phones through the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal. Between 1 January 2025 and 31 July 2025, nearly 4,000 mobile phones were returned to their rightful owners.

This achievement places Haryana among the leading states in the country where technology and police coordination have delivered direct benefits to the public.

According to an official statement, in Gurugram, the highest number of 1,195 mobile phones were returned to their owners. Sonipat recorded 609, and Yamunanagar returned 288 mobile phones. Districts like Hisar, Rewari, Sirsa, and Palwal also delivered good results, further strengthening this initiative.

These figures clearly show that Haryana Police, by integrating modern technology with quick response, has made the process of mobile tracing extremely simple and effective. The CEIR portal has not only helped in recovering lost and stolen phones but has also strengthened public trust.

The CEIR (Central Equipment Identity Register) portal is an initiative of the Government of India aimed at preventing the misuse of lost or stolen mobile phones. Every mobile phone has a unique 15-digit IMEI number. As soon as a complaint regarding theft or loss is registered on the CEIR portal, its IMEI number is blocked. This ensures that the phone cannot operate on any Indian network and becomes useless for criminals.

For this, one must first register a complaint with the police, and then visit www.ceir.gov.in to fill in the mobile number, complaint details, IMEI number, and identity proof. As soon as a stolen mobile phone is used with another SIM card, an alert is sent to both the concerned police station and the owner of the phone. Once the phone is recovered, it can also be unblocked through the same portal. This system makes the recovery of stolen phones easier and enhances citizens’ safety.

Haryana Police have appealed to citizens that if their mobile phone is lost or stolen, instead of panicking, they should immediately call the 1930 helpline number or directly register a complaint on the CEIR portal (www.ceir.gov.in). Registering the IMEI number makes it easier to trace the phone and significantly increases the chances of its recovery.
