Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday said that the Muslim population in India has increased 24.6 per cent, attributing the rise to infiltration and not the fertility rate.

Speaking at an event in Delhi, Shah said, “The Muslim population has increased by 24.6 per cent, whereas the Hindu population has decreased by 4.5 per cent. I am telling you this because it hasn’t happened because of the fertility rate. It has happened because of infiltration.”

The Union Home Minister also noted the significant decline of Hindus in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

He also questioned the partition of India on the basis of religion. He said that Pakistan, a Muslim nation, was created on both sides of India, and from there, Muslims infiltrated into India, leading to a rise in their population in the country.

“I am going to tell you the difference between an infiltrator and a refugee. All the Hindus that decreased in Pakistan and Bangladesh, many of them took refuge in India. And the Muslim population that increased in India wasn’t due to fertility, it was because many Muslims infiltrated into the country,” he added.

Shah further stated that as per the 2011 census, Muslim population rose by 29.6 per cent in Assam in a decade. “This is not possible without infiltration,” he declared.

He also claimed that some districts of West Bengal saw the growth of Muslim population by 40 per cent and in some border areas by 70 per cent. “This is clear evidence that infiltration has taken place in the past,” Shah said.

He said that allowing such illegal infiltration to continue unabated would turn the country into a “Dharamshala”.

Shah vowed to “detect, delete and deport” the illegal infiltrators. “We will detect the infiltrators, delete them from the voter rolls, and deport them from this country,” he added.
