Two days after taking a loan of Rs 4,000 crore, the Madhya Pradesh BJP government on Friday spent more than Rs 2,255 crore with Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav transferring about Rs 1,910 crore into the bank accounts of the beneficiaries of various schemes and laying the foundation stones for development projects worth more than Rs 345 crore at Petlawad in the tribal dominated Jhabua district of the state.

At a state-level function at Petlawad on Friday, Dr Yadav transferred Rs 1,541 crore, as the 28th monthly instalment of the ‘Laadli Behna Yojana’, into the accounts of 1.26 crore beneficiary women, each receiving Rs 1,250. He also transferred Rs 320.89 crore to 53.48 lakh beneficiaries of the ‘Social Security Pension Scheme’, and Rs 48 crore to 31 lakh women for gas cylinder refilling.

He promised that the monthly payment of the ‘Laadli Behna Yojana’ would be increased by Rs 250 to Rs 1500 per month to each beneficiary after Diwali this year. He also assured that the state government would hike this amount to Rs 3,000 per month each by the year 2028.

According to state government officials, a special budget of Rs 27,147 crore has been allocated to women, with Rs 18,699 crore earmarked for the ‘Laadli Behna Yojana’.

Addressing the function, CM Dr Yadav accused the Ppposition Congress of insulting women. “When we give money to sisters, Congress leaders writhe in pain. They claim that the women use BJP’s money to buy liquor. This is an insult, and the state will not tolerate it,” he averred.

The chief minister announced that a medical college would soon be established in Jhabua.

He lauded the farmers of Jhabua, saying they are very hardworking, and noted that Petlawad-grown tomatoes were being exported abroad.

During the event, Yadav released a book, ‘Jhabua ke Sanjeevak’, documenting tribal Ayurvedic traditions. He also distributed motorised four-wheeler scooters to 11 differently-abled beneficiaries and inspected departmental exhibitions set up at the venue.

The state government took a loan of Rs 4,000 crore on 10 September in three instalments, including two of Rs 1,500 crore each, and one of Rs 1,000 crore.

The three instalments have been taken for repayment periods of 17 years, 19 years, and 20 years, respectively.

As a consequence of this loan, the total outstanding debt on the Madhya Pradesh BJP government has become more than Rs 4.53 lakh crore.
