Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday broke his own record to deliver the longest Independence Day speech.
Modi’s 2025 Independence Day speech, his 12th consecutive from the ramparts of the Red Fort, lasted for 103 minutes.
His previous longest speech was 98 minutes that he delivered on Independence Day in 2024.
In 2015, Modi delivered an 88-minute address, going past former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s historic 72-minute speech in 1947.
In 2023, Modi’s Independence Day speech lasted for around 90 minutes. He had spoken for 92 minutes in 2019, his first Independence Day speech of the second term. In 2018, he addressed the nation for 83 minutes.
His first Independence Day speech from the ramparts of the Red Fort came in 2014 when he spoke for 65 minutes.
Modi’s shortest Independence Day speech came in 2017 when he spoke for less than an hour.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister also broke former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s record for the most consecutive Independence Day speeches from the Red Fort.
