Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Wednesday announced her decision to stop visiting major memorials and parks dedicated to social reformers during their birth and death anniversaries. She said the move aims to prevent inconvenience caused to the public due to stringent security arrangements during her visits.
Mayawati, through her social media post, highlighted that during the four BSP governments formed under her leadership in Uttar Pradesh, the party accorded significant respect and recognition to key icons of the Bahujan movement—including Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj, Narayana Guru, Dr BR Ambedkar, and Kanshi Ram.

She said that while the earlier governments neglected these figures, the BSP initiated numerous public welfare projects and built grand memorials, parks, and cultural sites in their honour in Lucknow and Gautam Buddha Nagar, which now draw large crowds, especially on commemorative occasions.

The BSP chief said her presence at these public sites often results in people being stopped far away due to security protocols, causing discomfort to followers who come to pay their respects. Consequently, she has decided to offer tributes from her residence or the party office instead of visiting these sites in person.
As per her directions, on Dr BR Ambedkar’s upcoming death anniversary on December 6, BSP members and followers across Uttar Pradesh (except the western region) will gather at the Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Samajik Parivartan Sthal in Lucknow. Supporters from Western Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Uttarakhand are expected to assemble at the Rashtriya Dalit Prerna Sthal in Noida. They will pay homage to Ambedkar and reaffirm their commitment to advancing his movement for social equality and self-respect under BSP’s leadership.
