In a tragic incident, at least 10 people were killed and several others went missing after a boat carryinf devotees capsized in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura, prompting a major rescue operation.

According to District Magistrate CP Singh, the incident occurred in the Yamuna River near the iconic Kesi Ghat in Mathura at around 2.45 pm.

Nearly 30 people from Punjab’s Ludhiana were enjoying boating in two separate boats. One of the boats collided with a floating bridge and capsized.

“So far, six bodies have been recovered, while around 16–17 people have been rescued alive,” the DM said.

The toll further rose to 10 as rescue teams recovered four more bodies, with a search  operation underway for the missing devotees.

Officials said that teams from the local police, district administration, and trained divers have been deployed at the site.

PM Modi, UP CM express condolences

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep anguish over the incident, saying he was “deeply pained” by the mishap.

“My condolences to those who have lost their near and dear ones. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. The local administration is assisting those affected,” Modi said.

Terming the incident “extremely tragic and heart-rending”, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath also conveyed his condolences to the families of the deceased.

“I pray to Lord Shri Ram to grant peace to the departed souls, give strength to the grieving families to bear this immense loss, and ensure a speedy recovery for the injured,” he added.
