Himachal assembly by-polls: Congress announces candidates for 3 seats
The by-polls in six Assembly constituencies in the state are scheduled to be held on June 1 along with the Lok Sabha elections.
A Congress delegation in Manipur on Friday staked claim to form government in the state, Kh Jaikishan Singh, the spokesperson of the party’s state unit, said.
The move comes following the political upheaval in Karnataka where the Congress-JD(S) combine protested against Governor Vajubhai Vala’s decision to invite BJP’s BS Yeddyurappa to form the government.
Nine leaders of Congress Legislature Party (CLP), led by the Opposition Leader in Manipur Assembly and former chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh, met Acting Governor Jagdish Mukhi at Raj Bhavan in Imphal around noon and staked claim to form the government, Singh said.

The Congress had bagged 28 seats in the 60-member House in the 2017 Assembly polls and emerged as the single-largest party. The BJP, which secured 21 seats, had joined hands with regional parties and Governor Najma Heptulla had invited the coalition to form the government.
Earlier on Friday, Congress also staked claim to form government in Goa and submitted a letter to state Governor Mridula Sinha, seeking an invite to prove majority in the House.
In Goa Assembly elections held in March last year, the Congress had bagged 17 seats in the 40-member House, falling short of the majority figure by four seats.
The BJP, which got 14 seats, formed the government in alliance with Goa Forward Party and MGP, both of which had secured three seats each. Three Independents also went with the BJP.
Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in Bihar Assembly Tejashwi Yadav, along with leaders of RJD and Congress, on Friday met Bihar Governor Satya Pal Malik and staked claim to form the government.

While talking to media, former Bihar deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav said he met the Governor Satya Pal Malik and submitted the letter seeking an invite to prove majority in the House as Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) was the single largest party with the support of Congress, CPI(ML) and HAM(S).
