Delhi Police on Wednesday, June 3, formed multiple teams to apprehend the owner of the multi-storied Lemon Green Restaurant in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar after 21 people, including 17 foreign nationals, lost their lives in a major fire incident.

Police officials said that the teams were conducting coordinated raids across multiple locations in the national capital to trace and arrested the suspect, IANS reported.

According to reports, the owner of the property has been identified as Lokesh Bajaj. Further, it is being said that three partners are involved in the hotel’s operations, while they also own multiple other hotels and guest houses across the city.

In connection with the Malviya Nagar fire incident, the Delhi Police have registered a case under the culpable homicide section and other relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).

Amid the ongoing investigation into the major fire incident, police teams are examining aspects related to the hotel’s ownership, operations, and safety standards.

Meanwhile, officials have confirmed that out of the 21 people killed in the blaze, 17 were foreign nationals, with most of the deceased coming from Liberia, Nigeria, Mozambique and Bangladesh.

Earlier in the day, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) (South Delhi) Jitender Kumar said that of the 47 rescued, 26 people are currently undergoing treatment.

“Our search and rescue operation was completed at 12:12 p.m. A total of 47 people were rescued, of which 21 have died, and 26 are undergoing treatment,” IANS quoted SDM Kumar as saying.
