After failing to open its account during the last Assembly elections in West Bengal, the Congress is eying at least 10 seats in 2026 polls, Congress leader Diptimoy Ghosh said.
Amid the ongoing counting of votes for the 2026 Assembly elections in the state, Diptimoy Ghosh assessed the Congress’ chances in West Bengal during a “breakfast update” with The Statesman’s Dola Mitra.

Asked how many seats will the Congress win this time, Ghosh said, “We are looking at about 10. We will get seats in North Dinajpur, Malda and Murshidabad. We are confined to those areas actually.”
“In North Dinajpur we are likely to get two seats with the Chakulia seat being almost certain. In fact, I am positive we will get the Chakulia seat,” Ghosh added.
Also, the Congress leader added that they are likely to get three to four seats in Maldi region.
“Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury is contesting the Baharampur seat in Murshidabad. He is a strong candidate of course. However, consider that Malda and Murshidabad have witnessed the most number of deletions of names in the SIR process and there is the factor of Humanyun Kabir and his party. We are opening our account with zero but are expecting gains and are going to get back turf,” Ghosh added.
Voting for the 2026 Assembly elections in West Bengal was held across two phases on April 23 and April 29.
