Acquitted in the murders of their teenage daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj, dentist couple – Rajesh and Nupur Talwar, were on Monday finally released from prison.

The couple walked out of the Dasna jail in Ghaziabad at around 5 pm after the certified 275-page copy of the Allahabad High Court reached the prison authorities, the officials said.

As per reports, the couple will be visiting the Sai temple in Noida and from there, head to the residence of Nupur’s parents in Jalvayu Vihar.

The Talwars were in the jail for the last four years after a CBI Special Court held them guilty of murdering their daughter and destroying the evidence.

Their lawyers have written to the police in Ghaziabad seeking police protection to them after their release. They have cited an earlier attack on Rajesh Talwar at the Ghaziabad court premises with a knife

The couple was likely to walk out of Dasna jail in Ghaziabad on Friday, a day after being acquitted by the court, but the order of their acquittal from the Allahabad High Court didn’t reach the jail authorities in Dasna on time.

A bench of Justice BK Narayana and Justice AK Mishra set free the couple in the murder of 14-year-old Aarushi Talwar at their Jalvayu Vihar home in Noida on May 16, 2008 overturning a Special CBI Court judgment which convicted them for the murders.

The Talwars then appealed in the Allahabad High Court against the verdict.
