BJP state president and Leader of the Opposition Babulal Marandi has written to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), urging a full investigation into what he described as a deep criminal nexus involving former Jharkhand DGP Anurag Gupta and gangster Sujit Sinha’s organised syndicate.

In his letter to the NIA Director General, Marandi said the Sinha gang has been operating under the banner of the Koyalanchal Shanti Samiti, which he termed a front for extortion, arms trade and other organised crimes. He alleged that the gang’s activities pose a national security threat because of suspected links with international networks.

He claimed the Sinha group was procuring weapons dropped through drones in Punjab’s Moga district, allegedly sourced from Pakistan. He also referred to the gang’s suspected association with international criminal operator Prince Khan. According to him, these developments demand an investigation beyond the scope of the state police.

Marandi said there were “credible concerns” that the encounter may have been engineered to eliminate competition and strengthen the Sinha gang’s position.

He added that there were attempts within the police to suppress chat records between Riya Sinha and the former DGP, which, according to him, raises questions about obstruction of justice.

Marandi said the nature of allegations, which combine police-criminal collusion with cross-border links, make an NIA inquiry necessary. He argued that the agency is best placed to investigate cases involving organised
