Leopard enters residential area, triggers panic in Aurangabad

Efforts were underway to trace the big cat and trap it, the official said.

A leopard strayed into a residential area in Aurangabad city of Maharashtra on Tuesday morning, triggering panic among people, an official said.

The feline was spotted by some morning walkers in CIDCO area of the city around 8 am and alerted the police and forest officials, he said.

Efforts were underway to trace the big cat and trap it, the official said.

This is not the lone incident, these days the animals crossing their territories and coming into the populated areas is very common.

The big cat was later rescued by the Forest Department with the help of DFS, while the injured were rushed to the hospital.

Central India recorded the highest population with Madhya Pradesh having 3,907 leopards.

A leopard trapped in a wire fence in a private garden in the Thitukkal area near Nilgiri Uthai was rescued after a 6-hour struggle.
