After the exuberant Holi celebrations in the village of Barsana, the revelry of Lathmar Holi cascaded through Nandgaon, the village of Lord Krishna, on Tuesday.

The spirited women of Nandgaon had prepared themselves well in advance. They adorned themselves in traditional attire and ornaments and arrived at the Holi Chowk in anticipation.

After welcoming of the women from Barsana, the festivities started with dance amidst a rainbow of Holi colours at the temple. Subsequently, descending to the square, the traditional Lathmar Holi ensued.

Accompanied by companions from Barsana, the huriyaras, arrived from Barsana to solicit the Holi festivity. Engaging in playful banter and exchanges, they partook in the revelry alongside the women. The vibrant Lathmar Holi unfolded at the Chowk of Nandgaon, witnessing mystical displays amidst showers of abir-gulal and resonating with traditional Holi melodies.

The unique tradition of Lathmar Holi recreated a scene reminiscent of the Dvapara Yuga, with the entire Nandgaon Chowk becoming a canvas of vivid colours amidst the playful exchanges of huriyaras and huriyarinis. The atmosphere echoed the jubilant spirit of ancient customs and rituals.

The celebration of Holi is known across the nation, yet the festivities in the land of Krishna, Barsana, hold a special allure. Commencing with the fragrant Flower Holi, this festival culminates with the vibrant colours of traditional Holi. Visitors from various parts of the country and beyond have flocked not only to Mathura and Vrindavan but also to Barsana to partake in the celebrations.

In Vrindavan, the upcoming celebrations promise a continuation of the vibrant and joyous festivities synonymous with the land of Krishna. On March 20th, Rangbharni Ekadashi will fill the Banke Bihari Temple with the hues of spring, as devotees gather to immerse themselves in the spirit of devotion and celebration. The following day, March 21st, will witness the spirited revelry of Lathmar Holi in Gokul, alongside the fragrant Flower Holi at the revered Banke Bihari Temple, adding a touch of divine essence to the colourful festivities.

As the week progresses, on March 24th, the Dwarkadheesh Temple will become a hub of joyous observations as devotees come together to celebrate Holi in all its glory. March 25th marks a momentous occasion as the entire Braj region will unite in the jubilant celebration of Holi, known as Dhulendi, spreading the message of love and unity far and wide. The fervour will continue on March 26th with the spirited tradition of Huranga observed at Daauji’s grand temple, followed by celebrations in Jabal, Gidoh, and Bathein on March 26th and 27th respectively.

Concluding the month’s festivities, Lathmar Holi will enchant the ancient town of Mahavan on March 31st, while April 1st will mark the final day of revelry at the esteemed Shri Rang Ji Temple in Vrindavan, bringing the colourful saga of Holi to a fitting close.
