Kushinagar accident: UP CM Yogi Adityanath asks protesters to stop ‘nautanki’

As Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday faced angry protests during his visit to Kushinagar, he asked protesters to stop the drama.

The UP chief minister was in Khushinagar to take stock of the situation after the train-school van collision that left 13 children dead.

“Narebaazi band karo, nautanki band karo (stop raising slogans, stop this drama),” Adityanath told protesters who were protesting against the administration.

As Adityanath reached the accident spot after visiting the district hospital, an angry crowd raised slogans against railway and local authorities.

The protesters demanded that railway personnel should be posted at the unmanned crossing to avoid such accidents.

Meanwhile, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has ordered an inquiry into the accident and announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the kin of the each deceased.

Thirteen students were killed and eight injured when a train rammed into a school van at an unmanned crossing on Thursday.

While visiting the accident site, CM Adityanath enquired about the treatment being given to the injured at a hospital.

Adityanath later told the media that prima facie the accident appeared to be the fault of the van driver, who apparently was listening to music on his earphones.

“I spoke to the Railway Minister (Piyush Goyal) and has requested him to find a way out to ensure that such unmanned railway crossings be manned,” he said.

He also said that there were questions about the age of the van driver and that a probe has been initiated into the tragedy.
