Kharge promises employment revolution if Cong voted to power in 2024

Cong promises Rs 1 lakh per annum to poor women under 'Nari Nyay'

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday said his party will bring a new employment revolution by giving recruitment assurance to the youth of the country if it is voted to power in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

The statement of the Congress chief comes a day after the party’s Manifesto Committee, headed by former Union minister and party stalwart P Chidambaram, had handed him the draft manifesto of the party for the general elections.

Chidambaram, accompanied by other members of the panel, presented the draft manifesto based on ‘nyay’ (justice) to the party chief at his residence here on Wednesday night. Now, the Congress Working Committee (CWC), the party’s highest decision making body, will finalize the manifesto.

“As soon as the Congress government is formed in 2024, a new employment revolution will begin by giving recruitment assurance to the youth of the country,” Kharge said in a social media post on Thursday.

Kharge, who is also the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, vowed that all the vacancies of around 30 lakh in the central government will be filled if it comes to power, and added that for this, a timeline will be decided from paper submission to recruitment.

He also announced that the party will bring a new ‘Right To Apprenticeship’ law to provide apprenticeship training to every diploma or degree holder youth below 25 years of age in government or private sector.

All apprentices will be given assistance of Rs 1 lakh in a year, that is, Rs 8,500 per month, Kharge said.

The Congress chief also promised to bring a new law to stop “paper leaks” besides bringing a new law for social security and working conditions in the ‘Gig Economy’ for crores of youth who are supporting themselves and their families by doing informal jobs.

“Under ‘Yuva Roshni’, a fund will be created with an amount of Rs 5,000 crore which will be distributed in all the districts of the country. The Congress party guarantees that this fund will be given to youth below 30 years of age to start their own business – startup,” Kharge said.

Earlier in the day, Congress MP and member of the manifesto committee Shashi Tharoor said the draft manifesto covers all sorts of issues keeping in view the well-being of the people of the country.

It may be mentioned that the Congress had launched a website and an email ID in January in a bid to gather public suggestions to incorporate in its manifesto for the general elections.
