Bus splits in two after overturning in Kerala’s Kuttippuram; 1 dead, 3 critical

One person was killed and several others were injured when a private limited-stop bus overturned on National Highway 66 at Kuttippuram in Kerala’s Malappuram district on Sunday morning.

The injured were rushed to Kuttippuram Taluk Hospital and Healfort Hospital in Kuttippuram. Three of the injured are reportedly in critical condition.

The identity of the deceased has not yet been officially released. Local residents said the victim died on the spot after being thrown from the bus onto the road.

The private bus, carrying passengers from Kozhikode to Thrissur, lost control while negotiating a rain-soaked stretch of the highway.

It crashed into a concrete road divider and overturned onto a car parked on the opposite side of the highway. The impact of the crash was so severe that the middle portion of the bus ripped apart, splitting it into two pieces.

Eyewitnesses alleged that overspeeding caused the accident. Local residents, emergency personnel, and highway police immediately launched rescue operations and pulled trapped passengers out of the mangled wreckage.
