Recurring power cuts in the Kedarnath area will no longer be an issue for locals and pilgrims as the Uttarakhand government has begun the exercise to set up a new high tech 33/11 kilovolt power substation at the shrine area. The need for a separate power station was felt in the past more than 12 years for the creation of a new township, known as Kedarpuri.
Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) officials informed that a modern power station would be set up in Kedarnath Dham. According to the officials, the new power station will immensely improve electricity supply in Kedarnath suburb. Sharing the information, UPPCL Managing Director Anil Kumar Yadav stated that a new 33/11 kilovolt power station equipped with state-of-the-art technology would be constructed at Kedarnath shrine area. UPCL MD claimed that Kedarnath power substation would meet all climatic challenges at more than 11000 feet high altitude in the himalayas.

He stressed that the Kedarnath power station would be equipped with modern safety devices, an advanced control system, and high-capacity transformers.
The UPCL MD added that construction work for Kedarnath shrine power substation was currently at its initial stage and will be expedited at rapid pace in days ahead.
He said electricity supply for Kedarnath shrine would improve significantly on commissioning of the new power substation and also do away with power cuts. It will help fulfill rising needs for power at Kedarpuri in view of increasing pilgrims footfall with every passing year.
“The new power substation will make the electricity supply in the Kedarnath township more stable and enable quick restoration of power during adverse weather or emergency situations. This will strengthen energy security of the region and ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to the consumers” said Yadav.
