The special investigation team (SIT) probing the phone tapping case in Telangana has issued a notice to former chief minister and BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao to be available for questioning at 3 pm on 30 January. Rao would be the fourth BRS leader to be questioned after former minister T Harish Rao, party working president KT Rama Rao and former MP J Santosh Kumar.

The BRS, however, has alleged that the notice was issued just after they approached Governor Jishnu Dev Varma for an inquiry into the alleged coal scam, accusing the Congress government of attempting to distract people with the notice to Rao.

Accordingly, he should make himself available for examination on Saturday at 3 pm.

“However, as you are above the age of 65 years and in strict compliance with the proviso to Section 160 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, you are not required to attend the police station necessarily,” stated the notice. It further stated that Rao may voluntarily appear before the ACP of Jubilee Hills Division, P Venkatagiri, at the Jubilee Hills Police Station or at any other place chosen by the Chief Minister in Hyderabad city limits suitable for examination. The notice was served at the Nandinagar residence of Rao in Banjara Hills.

BRS leader T Harish Rao condemned the issue of notice to Rao, popularly known as KCR, alleging a political vendetta by the Congress against the tallest leader of the Telangana movement. He said, “Attempting to throw mud at such a towering leader is nothing but trying to spit at the Sun. To divert the growing public resentment over administrative incompetence to shift the focus away from Singareni coal scams, Revanth Reddy’s government is issuing notices in the name of SIT, and this is the peak of the Chief Minister’s petty and street-level politics.”
