A journalist and his brother were shot dead inside their house in Madhopur locality of Saharanpur on Sunday morning over some minor conflict with their neighbour.

The deceased journalist Ashish Kumar, who was working with a Hindi daily is survived by a pregnant wife. The two were recently married.

SSP of Saharanpur Dinesh Kumar P told that a case has been registered against the accused and his sons who are the neighbours of the deceased brothers.

“There was a minor conflict between the two neighbours over cow dung which led to the double murder. However, we will investigate whether it was the actual reason behind the murder or was there any other cause behind the incident. Three teams have been formed to arrest the accused and they would be soon behind the bars,” said the SSP.

Deceased Ashish was a reporter with a Hindi daily and used to live with his brother Abhishek and wife in Madhopur locality of Saharanpur. He had an altercation with his neighbour Mahipal on the issue of dumping cow dung outside his house.

On Sunday morning, Mahipal and his sons barged into his house and shot dead Ashish and his brother Abhishek and fled away from there, said the police. The injured brothers were rushed to the hospital where doctors declared them brought dead. The dead bodies of the two brothers were sent for the post mortem.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed condolences over the death of the journalist and his brother and announced an ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh each to the next of the kin of the two.
