From the bustling chess halls of Chennai to the world stage, Viswanathan “Vishy” Anand, India’s first Grandmaster was noted for his rapid playing speed as a child.
However, at the first session of the Day-2 of the Jaipur Literature Festival (JLF) 2026 on Friday, at Charbagh, Clarks Amer, Vishy had a busy day in a different role, giving kids and youngsters the mantra for success (win), sharing inspirational tales from his book and also attending fans and admirers who thronged the book stall to buy his book.

“During my career in Chess me too suffered defeats in several games. At one occasion, I lost all 3 games in the match”, he quipped.
On his advise against the use of AI, Vishy elaborated, “While seeking answers you need to understand appropriately answers from others, this may not be easy always for all, at least I do feel tired and bored in understanding the answers from the AI”.
In session ‘Lightning Kid’, he shared many more inspiring instances from his journey of brilliance and curiosity. Through his witty and insightful stories and secrets, he inspired young readers for success in life and also guided them in discovering the magic and the joy in playing chess.
In conversation with journalist and novelist, Rahul Bhattacharya, he discussed lessons learnt from the board and the making of a champion.
