Two terrorists were killed on Tuesday in an encounter with the security forces in the Tujjar area of Sopore in North Kashmir.

Army spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia said that search operation was continuing in the area.

The encounter began in the morning when terrorists opened fire on an Army patrol.

Meanwhile, an Army soldier identified as Lance Naik Sandeep Singh was martyred and five Pakistani terrorists killed on Monday in an encounter during which the Army foiled an infiltration bid in the Tangdhar sector in Kupwara district of North Kashmir.

Groups of heavily armed terrorists have during the past two months made several attempts to infiltrate through the Tangdhar route.

Lance Naik Sandeep Singh (30) belonged to village Kotla Khurd of the Gurdaspur district of Punjab.

The top brass of the Army and police paid tributes to the martyred soldier at a solemn ceremony at the Badami Bagh cantonment in Srinagar this morning after which his body was flown to his native village for the last rites.
