Four soldiers, including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO), were injured in an accidental landmine explosion in the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, June 16.
According to officials, the explosion in the forward Kalal area of Rajouri’s Nowshera sector was caused by accidental activation of a landmine during an area domination patrol by the Army, IANS reported.

“A JCO and three soldiers were injured in the blast and were immediately evacuated to a hospital for treatment,” an official said.
As per reports, the forward areas remain dotted with landmines as part of the anti-infiltration drive. However, these sometimes get washed away due to rain, resulting in such accidents. Landmines that get washed away from their original place of implantation are called “drift mines”.
Overall, the Union Territory has a 740-km long LoC situated in the Baramulla, Kupwara and Bandipora districts of the Valley. Also, this includes areas in the Rajouri, Poonch and partly in the Jammu district of the Jammu division.
Additionally, there is a 240-km long international border situated in Samba, Kathua and Jammu districts of Jammu division. While the Army guards the LoC, the international border is guarded by the Border Security Force (BSF).
