Jairam hits out at Modi govt’s handling of Quad Summit, US trade deal

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Monday expressed sharp criticism of the Modi government’s ‘faltering’ foreign policy, highlighting setbacks in India’s international engagements.

“There was a time when we were told India would be hosting the Quad Summit in November 2025. That is now not happening,” Ramesh lamented in a post on handle X.

He also pointed to the stalled US-India trade deal, noting, “India was supposed to be among the earliest to sign a trade deal with the US. That supposed deal has become an ordeal while exports to the US decline, leading to loss of livelihoods here.”

Ramesh also took aim at the handling of Operation Sindoor, a military campaign whose sudden halt was first announced from Washington rather than New Delhi.

“President Trump has for the 57th time repeated why and how Operation Sindoor was unexpectedly halted—with the first announcement coming from Washington, not New Delhi,” he said.

The Congress leader’s remarks underscore growing concerns within the opposition about the government’s effectiveness in managing critical international relationships and safeguarding India’s economic and strategic interests.
