The Rajya Sabha chairman has refused to allow jailed Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh to take oath as Rajya Sabha MP, saying the matter is currently pending before the Privileges Committee.

Earlier on Saturday, Delhi’s Rouse Avenue court had allowed the AAP leader to take oath as an MP in police custody.

Singh had sought interim bail for oath taking and attending the ongoing budget session of the Parliament. He was suspended from the Rajya Sabha on July 24 last year.

However, he was again elected unopposed as Rajya Sabha last month along with other AAP candidates Swati Maliwal, and N D Gupta.

On January 8, he was allowed to come out of jail and file his nomination papers for the elections to the Upper House of Parliament.

Sanjay Singh was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) following extensive raids at his Delhi residence on October 4, 2023.

The ED arrested the senior AAP leader in connection with a money laundering probe into the alleged Delhi liquor policy scam case.

According to ED sleuths, Singh played a key role in the formulation of the now scrapped Delhi liquor policy which benefitted certain manufacturers and vendors.

It was Sanjay Singh, according to ED, who introduced jailed former Delhi deputy CM Manish Sisodia to Dinesh Arora, key accused turned witness.
