The Mirzapur Lok Sabha seat is poised to witness an intriguing electoral battle, where a mother is engaged in a fierce contest against her own daughter.

On Wednesday, the Apna Dal (Kamerawadi) led by Krishna Patel announced to contest three seats — Mirzapur, Phulpur and Kaushambi — under the INDI alliance.

The Mirzapur seat is currently represented by Apna Dal (Sonelal) president and Union Minister Anupriya Patel. Her mother, who heads the rival faction Apna Dal (Kamerawadi), will be challenging Anupriya in the election.

Though Krishna Patel has not announced the names of the candidates, all three seats are dominated by Kurmi voters, who are being wooed by both factions of the Apna Dal.

While Mirzapur has Anupriya as a sitting member, both Phulpur and Kaushambi are represented by the BJP.

While Anupriya is the sitting member from the Mirzapur seat, both Phulpur and Kaushambi are represented by the BJP.

During the 2022 assembly polls, Krishna Patel’s younger daughter Pallavi Patel, who supports her mother, defeated UP’s heavyweight Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya.
