In view of rising tensions in Iran over the nationwide anti-government protests and US President Donald Trump’s threat of military intervention, the Government of India is reportedly planning to evacuate its nationals from the country.

According to a report by the news agency ANI, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is making preparations to facilitate the return of Indian nationals who wish to travel back to India.

Jaishankar is also believed to have raised the issue of the safety of Indian nationals amid violent anti-government protests.

Earlier on Wednesday, India issued an advisory urging its nationals currently in the Islamic Republic of Iran to leave the country by available means of transport, including commercial flights.

The advisory further reiterated that all Indian citizens and PIOs should “exercise due caution, avoid areas of protests or demonstrations, stay in contact with the Indian Embassy in Iran, and monitor local media for any developments.”

The advisory came amid US President Donald Trump’s threat to militarily intervene in Iran amid the regime’s violent crackdown on anti-government protesters. The US President is reportedly considering a military operation in Iran. He has urged the protesters to take over institutions and told them that “help is on its way.”

In response, Iran warned countries hosting US bases that it will target the US military infrastructure in their territories if it is attacked by Washington. Following the Iranian warning, the US withdrew an unspecified number of personnel from its Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar as a “precautionary measure”.

Additionally, Treasury is designating 18 individuals and entities tied to Iran’s “shadow banking” networks that have laundered proceeds from Iranian petroleum and petrochemical sales. This action also further implements National Security Presidential Memorandum-2 of 2025: US Department of State
