In view of the evolving situation in Iran, the Government of India has issued an advisory urging Indian nationals currently in the Islamic Republic of Iran to leave the country by available means of transport, including commercial flights.

In the advisory, the Embassy of India in Iran reiterated that all Indian citizens and PIOs should exercise due caution, avoid areas of protests or demonstrations, stay in contact with the Indian Embassy in Iran and monitor local media for any developments.

The government has requested all Indian nationals to have their travel and immigration documents, including passports and IDs, readily available with them. Also, Indian nationals have been strongly advised by the government to avoid travel to Iran until further notice.

Earlier on 05 January, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) had also issued an advisory for Indian nationals to avoid non-essential travel to Iran. It had asked the Indians living in Iran on resident visas to register with the Indian Embassy, if they had not already done so.

Indian nationals in Iran must contact the Indian Embassy for any assistance in this regard.

Nationwide protests in Iran

Iran has been witnessing anti-government protests since 28 December 2025, with demonstrations spread across 187 cities and all 31 provinces of the country.

As per data, 147 members of security forces and government supporters have also been killed, including at least five civilian supporters of the government.
