Hours after a high-intensity car explosion near the Red Fort killed eight people and injured 24, a political blame game erupted, with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh alleging that Pakistan could be behind the attack. Meanwhile, federal agencies began probing a possible terror angle.
“The Home Minister has also called us, and information is being shared with him from time to time,” Commissioner Golcha said.

While the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and other forensic teams began their official investigation at the sealed-off site, AAP leader Sanjay Singh launched a sharp political attack.
“Only Pakistan is capable of such a despicable act. Modi has boosted the morale of Pakistani beasts by declaring a ceasefire. The terrorists who have taken the lives of our innocent citizens must be eliminated. An attack on the Red Fort is an attack on a symbol of our pride. The country is not safe under Modi’s watch,” he stated.
In a contrasting tone, senior AAP leader and Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia posted on X, calling the news of the blast “extremely worrying” and wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.
“My prayer is that all citizens of Delhi and the country remain safe,” Sisodia wrote. “In such times, maintaining peace and restraint is our greatest strength. We can only respond to terror and fear through unity.”
The blast, which occurred near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station at around 6:52 PM, set multiple vehicles ablaze and shattered nearby windowpanes. The explosion’s intensity led to widespread panic in the area.
According to Dr BL Chaudhary, Medical Superintendent of Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital (LNJP), “Eight of them were declared dead before reaching the hospital, while six are severely injured.”
Following the incident, police have sounded a high alert across the national capital. Visuals from the scene showed flames and thick smoke billowing from burning cars.
Uttar Pradesh on high alert
In the wake of the explosion, an alert has also been issued across Uttar Pradesh. The state’s ADG (Law and Order), Amitabh Yash, confirmed that the DGP has instructed all senior officers to enhance security at sensitive religious places, key districts, and border areas.
