India-China tensions became tense after Galwan Valley clash in eastern Ladakh in June 2020. The ties between the two countries eroded after the incident as it marked the most serious military confrontation.

After the clash, both countries increased troop deployments along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and held multiple rounds of military and diplomatic negotiations. While some issues lingered for years, a major breakthrough occurred last year with the pullback of forces from eastern Ladakh’s Depsang and Demchok plains. The process, which included removing troops, tents, and temporary infrastructure, was completed on October 30.

Although some pullbacks have occurred at certain flashpoints in recent years, several disputes remain unsettled, continuing to strain relations.

Meanwhile, on Monday India suspended Air India’s flights to Washington amid tensions with US due to latter’s imposing of steep tariff on Indian goods.

The U.S. has imposed an additional 25% tariff on Indian imports, on top of the earlier 25%, raising the total duty to 50%.
