Reiterating his call for Congress breakaway parties to reunite with the parent organisation, former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has stressed the need for greater unity among INDIA bloc allies to take on the RSS-BJP under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi.

In a post on social media platform X on Friday night, Gehlot said that Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi had rightly highlighted the real crisis facing the nation.

Quoting Gandhi’s remarks at a meeting of the INDIA bloc, Gehlot said: “The real problem is the RSS’s attempt to control constitutional institutions.” He added that this situation has generated widespread discontent among the people. In such circumstances, opposition parties should not remain engaged in fighting among themselves.

The former Chief Minister said, “I fully agree with Rahul ji on this issue and with his assessment that there are strong prospects of success in the fight against the RSS-BJP under his leadership.”

“If we, as allies, fight the BJP unitedly, we can defeat them easily,” Gehlot said. He added that with this belief, he had appealed to Congress breakaway parties within the INDIA alliance to reunite with the Congress.

In another post on Thursday, the senior Congress leader strongly endorsed Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader Sanjay Raut’s call for Congress breakaway parties to return to the grand old party and wholeheartedly accept Rahul Gandhi as their leader.

The veteran Congress leader said, “I believe that what Sanjay Raut has said has merit. The time has come. The fight now is to save democracy. When we are all on the battlefield fighting to protect democracy, I support what Sanjay Raut has said.”

Gehlot further said, “All those parties that became regional parties after separating from the Congress should rejoin it, and they should wholeheartedly accept Rahul Gandhi as their leader.”

He stressed that there should be a clear message across the country that Rahul Gandhi is the leader of the INDIA alliance.

“This message should be loud and clear,” he asserted.

The Congress veteran added, “Then the people will make you successful. They see that on one side is Narendra Modi ji and on the other side is Rahul Gandhi ji. If there is a clear message that all political parties have collectively accepted Rahul Gandhi as their leader, then you will see a change in the country’s voting pattern.”

Expressing concern over the state of democracy, Gehlot said, “I believe that democracy in this country is in great danger.”

He also appealed to the younger generation to participate actively in public life and politics.

“Why do I repeatedly address the younger generation? I say that you should enter politics on the basis of ideology, whether you are students or young professionals,” he said.

“Your time has come. Participate in politics. Read the ideologies of all political parties and reflect on which one you believe best serves the national interest. Join that party—we have no objection. But at least get involved.”

“History will question you in the years to come about the role you played in your time. Do not evade your responsibility. Do not stay away. Come and participate,” the Congress leader said.
