Gautam Bambawale appointed envoy to China

Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan Gautam Bambawale was on Thursday named the next Ambassador to China.

An IFS officer of the 1984 batch, Bambawale replaces Vijay Gokhale, who has already taken charge as Secretary (Economic Relations) in the External Affairs Ministry.

Bambawale, who speaks fluent Mandarin, had earlier also dealt with China in his capacity as Joint Secretary in the ministry.
