The Ropar district police brought Sampat Nehra, a notorious gangster, to court today on a production warrant from Bathinda jail.

Nehra, also a suspect in the murder of Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi, president of the Karni Sena, is set to undergo questioning in a case filed last month under the Arms Act.

As per police reports, Nehra, associated with the Bishnoi gang, is alleged to have planned the assassination of Gogamedi while in custody at Bathinda jail.

Gogamedi, the Karni Sena chief, met a fatal end in his Jaipur residence at the hands of two assailants on Tuesday. Ropar SSP Gulneet Singh Khurana mentioned that Nehra is wanted in a case registered under the Arms Act at Singh Bhagwantpur police station last month.

Following his transfer from Bathinda jail, he was presented in a local court and subsequently remanded to police custody until December 15.
