To check female feticide, the Union government had enacted Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act in 1994 and a nodal officer of PCPNDT was deputed in each district.

Assistant Chief Medical Officer (ACMO), Dr Praveen Kumar Gautam, the nodal officer here, received inputs from an informer that a gang is active in the area which is performing fetus identification tests. Working on this tip, Dr Praveen and his team laid a trap and sent a woman posing as a patient asking for the test.

One of the agents of the gang finalised the deal for conducting the test for Rs 30 thousand and a member of the gang was deputed to take the woman on a motorcycle for the test.

Dr Praveen and his team chased him and raided the house of Arvind in village Panchgaon Patti where the tests were being performed. The team arrested Pratap, a PRO at a diagnostic centre, and Ashok and Bobby, brothers of the house owner. Ashok was performing the test using a portable machine.

The team also recovered a motorcycle and Rs 42 thousand in cash from the possession of the arrested persons. A case under PCPNDT Act has been registered against them at Bhawanpur police station.
