Former Kerala Director General of Police (DGP) Jacob Thomas participated in the Vijayadashami festival function organised by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) at Pallikkara in Kochi on Wednesday, wearing the traditional Ganavesha (RSS uniform of white shirt and brown trousers).
Presiding over the concluding function of the Vijayadashami Pada Sanchalanam (procession) at Pallikkara, Jacob Thomas said that the RSS has no caste, religion, language, or regional factionalism.
“The objective of the RSS is to strengthen the nation. With that objective in mind, the Sangh is working to make individuals strong. A strong society made up of such strong individuals makes the nation strong,” he said.
He added that the message of gaining strength at all levels and helping others grow stronger is one of the key reasons why Vijayadashami was chosen for the founding of the Sangh.
Jacob Thomas, who retired as DGP, has been closely associated with the BJP and RSS for some time. He has often echoed the RSS’s positions on various issues. He joined the BJP in 2021, accepting membership from party president JP Nadda, and contested the assembly elections from Irinjalakuda the same year.
Thomas has earlier said he was attracted to the RSS after visiting a school in Mysuru run by the organisation in 1997. “Since I was in government service, I focused on my duties. I decided to become active in the RSS only after retirement,” he said.
Stating that the RSS is the best platform to serve people, the former IPS officer clarified that he does not seek positions, and his goal is full-time service. He added that he is becoming more active in the RSS, which is celebrating its centenary, with the intention of staying rooted in India.
Jacob Thomas is not the first IPS officer in Kerala to associate with Sangh Parivar movements after retirement. Former DGP R. Sreelekha is currently the BJP state vice-president, while former DGP TP Senkumar has also taken positions aligned with the Sangh Parivar.
