The Rajasthan Police, on Tuesday, announced a weekly off for cops for the first time. The scheme will be launched on a trial basis in the first fortnight of January next year.
At a high-level meeting here at police headquarters (PHQ), Director General of Police Umesh Mishra directed the Inspectors General of Police (IGs) and Superintendent of Police to start giving weekly off to the police personnel on trial basis from the first fortnight of January, 2023.
If the pilot project turns out to be successful, the weekly off for the cops would be implemented with full spirit, the DGP said, adding the direction to this effect would be given later on.
When asked how this idea got moved, the DGP told SNS that it was Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot’s intention to provide a weekly off to the cops too. As of now the cops have to work 24×7 without any weekly off. However, those cops and officers working in the offices do get weekly off/weekend off.
